ipod friday

Again listening to my ipod while I drudge thru the piles of stupidity on my desk. Feeling a little ska today, listening to Reel Big Fish a great ska band. One I'm proud to say I turned my little brother on to and that we have seen in concert together. Good memories of bugging out his little 17 yr old eyes on campus and then in Cleveland. Good times.  I look forward to being the cool uncle who turns on my nephew to those 'oldies' lol! Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, RBF, etc as 'oldies' is funny to think about. Can't wait till he has his ipod on walking around house singing she has a girlfriend now or i don't f'in care, i don't f'in care!! That will go over well i'm sure, hell he already loves Queen, bet by 10 he knows all the words to fat bottom girls. I probably will get in more trouble when I start schooling him on must see movies like Reservoir Dogs and Godfather and Clockwork Orange. Anyway, have a good Friday and rock out to something that makes you relax and ready for the weekend.

Segment 1 picks

And like hockey, after about a 2 days off, racing is back!!!! (unlike hockey - I'm happy about it)

So before I get into my segment 1 picks I'd like to do my season champion and this year I will not be playing it safe. I'm going to mix it up a bit, see if I can get back to victory lane. And my pick.....

Team Red Bull and Kasey Kahne - why?  Well, team Red Bull is money money money and has had success in every other form of racing in the world. In NASCAR, ehh not bad for the so so drivers they have had and I'm no fan of the midget lady killer, but he is best 90lb driver in racing (sorry Danica) which will push the team to next level, well at least for a season. Plus, he better go get a championship before next year when he starts driving the most cursed number in NASCAR - Hendrick number 5 is wicked bad mojo.

And now my picks......

Daytona 500 - Jr, I have to pick with my heart sometimes, he is wayyyyyy due, its daytona, no one's pick is safe,  so might as well take a shot and hope for the best. If he does get caught up in a wreck, I only ask he spins that bitch right into Paul Menard's path!!

Phoenix - 48, OK sometimes you can't go out on a limb, Some times you need to take the sure thing and get some points. My philosophy is take risks at places like dega, bristol, daytona and the other tracks go with the guys that always ALWAYS finish in top 5 or 10 even if they are a homo, shrub, or retarded tom cruise.

Vegas baby - 18, went back and forth on which Busch brother would defend home turf in sin city (those ears are sins and didn't stay in Vegas - they should have) and settled on kyle because I doubt he'll have another bad year (hope I'm wrong). He would fall under a safer bet for season champ.

Bristol - 2, Ahh, my Brother-in-law (Bill) whom is joining us for his first season in Budnascar will be going to the spring race in Bristol for the second year in a row, hope he has a blast (again) and maybe sees the 88 in victory lane, but will probably have to settle for his discovery in the blue deuce.

Fontuckey - 4, this is where my season pick will start to show the power of team red bull and how good he is on the medium or large (non restrictor plate) tracks. (Steve and slack, is there a more appropriate number for Fontuckey than 4? how perfect?! 4!!!)

Martinsville - 11, um if you don't take the 11 you better take the 48, because the other 41 drivers are not running for the win at this track. homo and special needs are killer here, I think Hamlin has 4 of last 5 wins here, maybe 5 of 6? anyway, he's good. one leg, two legs, 5 noses dude likes martinsville.

So there you have it, hope it helps or at least entertains. Good luck to all playing. Go 88!!!!

A memory of being cool......

I have never been overly concerned with being "cool" or in the know. I like what I like and if others don't oh well. Now whatever you happen to be into, there will be others into it as well and chances are you will be with the masses at some point. I am not a person into strange things just to be different, no I just happen to like what I like - classic rock and 90's grunge mostly - like a lot of other people. I consider myself to be very diverse and listen to many different types of music, but those that know me well know I listen to PJ, Queen, Floyd, etc etc for the most part. Anyway I'm rambling, the point being I like music that has been or is "cool", but because I like it, not just to be "cool". But one time, just once I discovered in my small world something that in my circle of friends was the ever cool "ahead of its time and new" or at least new to us!

In fall 1994 I was at media play (if a young person ever reads this, that would be a music store from back in the day, old man statement of the year for me) looking at singles, ha! Then I would head over to the classic rock rack to buy something to add to the collection. I was so not into new music yet because I was obsessed with anything mid to late 60's that rocked. Then I saw an album cover that was so cool and I didn't recognize the title or the band, but I just had to buy it to see what the music was like that went with the cover. I read the back and saw it was newer music (released in 92) and should not have been in the classic rock section. The album was 40 oz. to freedom the band (for those not in the know) Sublime. In  2 years their self titled 3rd album would blow up shortly after their lead singer and star would overdose like too many great musicians.....  It was the only time I turned all my friends on to something before it became what everyone knew about and that's not as important to me now as it was then, but I'm glad what I turned them on to was something so good. That is what I find cool now, just how great the music is, 40oz and Sublime are still two of my favorite albums to just hit play and listen to every track. I am still partial to 40 because it was first and because it has Rivers of Babylon which is a cover song, but it is a must listen - just perfect. The whole album is amazing. Like many other rock stories  it is sad that it was cut short but I am appreciative of the music we do have.

I guess, if you have the album and haven't listened to it in a while, I'm saying put it on and enjoy. If you've never heard it, buy or borrow and give it a try you will not be disappointed. I'll be listening today in my very NOT cool desk at my NOT cool job, letting the songs take me back to being cool or what the 16 yr old me thought was cool, I'm glad the 32 yr old me still thinks it is cool. Hope the 64 yr old me is still listening to great music.

"Why give her diamonds, when you can give her family jewels?" !!!!

Sprint had their big announcement yesterday for the Echo, this was an epic fail!! What a joke of a phone, they better get bailed out tomorrow by HP/palm with their new phones or I will be left with no other options than droid.

Mark Zuckerberg has a stalker, go figure I don't go a week without someone telling me they are Facebook stalking, so figures he should have a stalker.

For those that know me and think I listen/agree with Howard Stern too much, he's now all about Tweeting and Twitter and I still think its the worst form of social networking. He hopefully will get bored with it and realize it is lame.

How awesome would it have been to listen to Pres Bush and John Madden's conversation at the superbowl, you'd almost have to be a linguist to keep up! It be like if Slack and I wrote an email together on a sports topic.

Less than 2 weeks to the Daytona 500 :-)

Hope all is well with everyone.
